On September 24 the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program released a fresh round of invitations that could change the future of many skilled workers. A total of 474 letters of advice to apply were sent out, with the largest group – 417 people – coming from natural sciences, engineering, architecture and information technology. The draw also included a single family doctor, sixteen French‑speaking candidates and forty individuals selected through strategic recruitment missions. Each recipient now has a sixty‑day window to submit a full nomination application that can lead to Canadian permanent residence.
The process offers a clear advantage: successful nominees can ask the province for a work‑permit support letter, which then becomes part of a federal work‑permit request. In many cases, the provincial nominee may also qualify for a bridging open work permit, allowing them to keep working while their permanent‑residence file is processed. Recent temporary policy changes have shortened the waiting time for this bridging permit, making the overall pathway faster than before.
The draw was organized under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream, which focuses on three main selection criteria. First, candidates who already hold a job in Manitoba within the broad occupational categories of natural and applied sciences, engineering, architecture or IT were prioritized. The province looked at the highest‑scoring profiles that showed current employment in these fields. Second, a single invitation went to a doctor working as a family physician, reflecting the province’s need for health‑care providers. Third, the program set aside spots for French‑speaking applicants who proved language ability through an approved test.
A separate set of forty invitations targeted workers both inside Manitoba and abroad. These candidates were linked to specific recruitment initiatives, such as community‑based projects, employer‑driven programs, or the now‑expired temporary public policy that helped prospective nominees obtain work permits. The breakdown showed invitations spread across regional communities, ethnocultural groups, employer services and francophone networks.
Not every eligible profile received an invitation. The province warned that missing or expired language test numbers, or an absent strategic‑recruitment invitation code, could disqualify a candidate even if the rest of the profile matched the criteria. Since the start of 2026, Manitoba has issued nearly 7,000 letters of advice across 19 rounds, indicating a steady flow of opportunities for qualified workers.
For those who were not selected this time, another option exists. Around 2,700 at‑risk workers may still apply for open work permits under the Manitoba Workforce Transition Bridge policy, provided they had a provincial support letter and an active expression of interest before the end of 2025. This safety net shows that the province continues to look for ways to keep skilled talent in the region.
Overall, the latest draw highlights a clear route for qualified STEM professionals, health‑care workers and French‑speaking candidates to move toward permanent residence in Manitoba. The question now is whether this pathway aligns with your own career goals and personal plans.
